Vegan Petfood Companies:
www.vegepet.com, originally known as Harbinger's of a New Age, market ONLY vegan products.
This company was ahead of it s time, being in business now for 20 years. The company owner, James Peden, is vegan for nearly 38 years. Two out of the three staff members are vegan.
Products offered are: Vegecat: supplement that includes recipes for feeding cats using no animal products, Vegecat pH: supplement, Vegecat Kibble Mix: premixed kibble flour that just requires adding water, oil, and flour, Vegekit: supplement that includes recipes for feeding kittens and queens using no animal products, Vegedog: supplement that includes recipes for feeding dogs of all ages using no animal products, VegeYeast: a high acid, low magnesium, food yeast for cats and dogs, Prozyme Vegan: a vegan digestive enzyme mix especially for companion animals, Vegetarian Cats & Dogs: the book available as a computer download or on CD-ROM.
Some words from James Peden: "After 14 years of making (4 million) Trinity Sun Bars (a vegan fruit and nut bar), I realized no products existed for raising vegan cats and dogs. That began a year long research project (contacting many scientists) and formulating workable recipes that met nutrient requirements (first for cats and then for dogs)." He says this about his business: "We take pride in giving personal attention to our clients. If they need assistance in transitioning their companion animals without animal products we may provide the answers."
www.vegancats.com on-line store is vegan owned and operated since 1999. The owner, Jed Gillen, has been vegan for ten years, and authored a book on feeding pets vegan food, entitled: Obligate Carnivore.
The company offers vegan cat and dog food, both moist and kibble, mixes that you add to your homemade food, as well as vegan dog treats, and natural supplements and remedies for pets.
In his words, In the mid-1990's, I adopted a cat and didn t want to have to contribute to animal slaughter to feed her. After some searching, I discovered that there were vegan alternatives that I could use, but that they weren t widely known or available. The company was founded in order to give greater access to people looking to avoid contributing to cruelty in all areas of their lives, as well as to dispel some of the misconceptions surrounding the issue of feeding vegan food to cats and dogs.
