Vegan Wine Company:

Wright Wines has been in business since year 2000. It is owned by a vegan, Geoff Wright, and his vegetarian partner and they produce vegan and organic wine.

He answered my question: "In regards to your question, what makes most wines non-vegan Yes, mainly due to the fining agents used in the wines, most wines would use one of the following; isinglass (type of fish), gelatin, egg whites, skim milk casein (from egg whites). These additives are used in the making of the wines. Not all wines use all of them, but at least one of the above would be used in most wines. We do not use any of the above additives in our wines.

"Also point to note, our wines are certified by the New Zealand Vegetarian Society, being suitable for vegetarians/vegans. Our vineyard is also certified with CERTNZ, an organic agency in New Zealand."

They are currently setting up their vineyard and winery on a farm in Ormond Valley Road and welcome wooffers (willing workers on organic farms) to their block.

Wrights Wines is located at 202 Wainui Road, Gisborne, New Zealand.
