About the Second Asian Vegetarian  Congress

As a member of the International Vegetarian Union (IVU), the Asian vegetarian Union (AVU) was founded at the 33rd World Vegetarian Congress held in Chiang Mai, Thailand in January 1999.  The first president elected was Mr. Jashu Shah of India who was also chairman of the first Asian Vegetarian Congress successfully held in Goa, India in October 2001.

As supported by the Asian Vegetarian Union, it is good opportunity that the Thai Vegetarian Society co-hosted with the Mahasarakham University, University of Thai  Chambers of Commerce, Ministry of Public Health and Thai Health Promotion Foundation will host the Second Asian Vegetarian in 2006.  The congress also aimed to honor merits and respect for H.M. King Bhumipol of Thailand for H.M. 78th years and 60th royal reign.

Objectives

To promote and disseminate knowledge of healthy vegetarian food, nutrition and lifestyle among Asian people.  The theme of the congress is the harmonization of vegetarian way of life with health,  environment  and  peace.
