This book argues in a logical and scholarly manner that animals have rights.
He attributes that our lack of recognition of these rights is non less than speciesism. Singer exposes what humans do to animals as a result of speciesism in all branches of animal suffering and develops the argument that pain is the same whether felt by animals or by humans.
He goes into detailed analysis of the life of farm animals and of animals used as tools for research. He advocates a vegan diet and also goes through the history of animal concern through the ages.
Not only a must for all those engaged in pro animal work where arguments have to be addressed correctly but also every one who is in search of the truth and enlarged moral responsibility.
