David
Pye has been vegetarian for over 30 years and spent 20 years as a research
scientist, he is now self-employed as an IT consultant and has just completed
a Masters degree in digital media production. Over the last ten years
David has taken a major role in setting up two UK companies and taken
them forward to become successful local charities with over 30 employees.
He is company secretary of these two charities, which specialise in energy
efficiency and organic gardening. David joined the council of the International
Vegetarian Union in 1999 and has served as treasurer for the past five
years. He has also became a trustee of the UK Vegetarian Society in 1997
and was appointed chair of the charity in December 2003. He lives with
his partner Christine in Merseyside, England. His interests include, sailing,
computers, world music and environmental issues. David's area of interest
is the environmental aspect of vegetarianism and he has spoken at several
international congresses on this topic and produced a video especially
for the Brazilian Congress. David says, "Environmentalists consistently
ignore the environmental advantages of becoming vegetarian. It's an area
we really need to target as the argument is so much in our
favour. Its getting environmentalists to listen and understand that's
the real issue."
