Stefan: Biography: Born in 1980 in Zürich. Education in homeopathy. In his 7th term of medical studies.

Andreas: Born in 1979 in Zürich, vegetarian since age 12, vegan since 1998.  Professional ice hockey player and student of communications sciences at the University of Lugano, Switzerland
1998-99 Canadian Junior League CJHL;  2000-01 Winner of Continental Cup with HC Ambrì-Piotta;  2001-02 Winner of Super Cup with HC Ambrì-Piotta; 2002-03 Swiss champion with Lugano Ice Hockey Club;  2005-06 Swiss champion with Lugano Ice Hockey Club.  Hobbies: Politics, literature and my dogs. 

Workshop title: Medical and Peak Physical Performance Aspects of a Vegan Diet
with Stefan Gyoerke

Stefan Abstract: Living as vegan, how do you meet the requirements for essential nutrients available in from meat, fish, eggs and milk in a non-vegetarian diet? Does a plant based diet require special knowledge and care to avoid deficiencies? Do vegans need to worry about their health more than “normal“ eaters?  On the basis of various studies, these questions are discussed and the results compared. The text of this presentation is supported by Dr. Andres Bircher, who opened his vegetarian clinic in Le Pont, Switzerland recently.

Andreas Abstract: I shall discuss the prejudices against a vegan diet for high performance athletes from my own point of view as a long-time top sportsman. I will report my experiences with milk and eggs and their influence on my fitness, as well as basic ideas about the usefulness of the different food componenets in meeting  the essential requirements of the human body, taking ethical issues into account.

Biography: Born 1957.  Studied nutrition and dietetics in Kiel, Germany (Dipl. Oek.-Troph. 1983 ). Since 1989 disciple of Paramhans Swami Maheshwarananda, author of the Yoga in Daily Life system. 1991-2002 working for social-medical care in Vienna and Hamburg. Active yoga teacher since 1994. Manager of Yoga in Daily Life centres in Germany and Austria since 1996. In 2001 spiritual initiation “Sannyas Diksha” as a Sadhvi (nun) in India.

Lecture title: Vegetarianism from the View of Yoga

Abstract: The main principle of spiritual life and the supreme commandment for humanity is “Ahimsa Paramo Dharma”: Non-violence is the highest duty. To protect all forms of life in their individuality and originality is a main aspect of the science of yoga. Our physical body as well as our psychic condition is influenced by nutrition. Vegetarian food is sattvic (=pure, fresh) and supplies pure prana as a basis for harmony, vitality, good health and spiritual development. Prana is that subtle energy and vibration that keeps us alive and nourishes our subtle energy layers. Giving up eating flesh is necessary not just as a matter of ethics but for survival on earth.

Dr. sc. agr. Edmund Haferbeck, Germany

Dr. Edmund Haferbeck, 51 years old, agricultural scientist specialising in animal production, scientific advisor to PETA Germany, Green Party member of Schwerin municipal council, co-founder and co-owner of ECHO publishing company. Author or editor of some 20 books on animal rights and jurisprudence.
Support and defence of animal rights activists in hundreds of law suits. Vegetarian for 26 years.

Lecture title: Animal Rights in the Conflict between Ecology, World Hunger and Climate Change

Abstract: For decades animal rights activists and vegetarian organisations have argued that meat production is the most ecologically damaging form of industrial production  and the prime cause of world honger, especially in the most exploited continents. Meanwhile, the United Nations and international agronomy organisations (including the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation) now confirm that, world wide, meat production is the main cause of global warming and far more damaging than transport and power, not to mention the waste of land and precious drinking water and the permanant violation of human rights and the penal code by the meat industry. Only animal rights can bring immediate and effective help to all living beings on our blue planet  -  through vegetarianism.

Dipl.-Ing. agr. Ingo F. Rittmeyer, Germany

Biography: An agricultural engineer, born in 1936, Rittmeyer fell ill with arthritis and gout in 1976. The doctor at Frankfurt University Clinic told him he would just have to live with it. Rittmeyer used the healing power of food to regain his health and has remained healthy ever since. He manages his family estate near Leipzig on organic and ecological principles, writes books on healing, manages an organic bakery, a shop and holiday homes and edits a magazine.

Lecture title: Why does our Daily Bread make us Sick?

Abstract: During his studies, Ingo F. Rittmeyer discovered what food is good for our health and what makes us ill. The food industry, including modern mills and factory bakeries, produces flour, bread and rolls and other  confectionary that debilitate whole populations and make them ill. The talk will explain how to distinguish healthy flour and confectionary from those that makes us ill, particularly when combined with with animal products.
