|International Vegetarian Union (IVU)|
33rd World Vegetarian Congress
Winifred and I will be arriving in Bangkok on the 31 December and staying at the Eastin Hotel until the morning of the 4 January 1999 when we fly north to Chiang Mai. We had some difficulty getting on a flight From Manchester but finally we have been successful. Apparently we will be the first to arrive in Bangkok but then there will be about 60 of us making the journey north on the 4 January.
This is our first IVU Congress and we are really looking forward to it as it is in Thailand, a country we have yet to experience.
As Founder Members of International Caravanning Association, (whose main aoim is to promote friendship world wide), we have spent most of our time over the last thirty years towing our caravan throughout Western Europe plus trips to Albania, Iceland, The Faroes, Turkey, Hungary and Scandanavia including three trips across the Arctic Circle.
All this means is that we have not spent a great deal of time in Hotels!
We have been vegetarians for the past twenty years , first of all for health reasons. Winifred started off with arthritis in her hands and read that the hormones used in meat production MAY cause this condition. So Winifred then became interested in whole food cookery and then became a Cordon Vert Chef by completing all parts of the Cookery Course at the Vegetarian Cookery School. I too was then persuaded to join the vegetarian way and have never felt healthier!
things then took off and Winifred became a demonstrator for the Veg Society and I was voted on the Board of Trustees for the Vegetarian Charity. This is a Charity which assists young people financially,( up to 26 years of age), with their education or young people who are genuinely in need of financial help.
I will be only too pleased to advise any young vegetarian at Chiang Mai how the Charity may be able to help.
Best wishes for Christmas. See you soon.
Ian and Winifred Allen
