From The British Vegetarian, Jan/Feb, 1971: 21st I.V.U. WORLD VEGETARIAN CONGRESS "WHAT ARE PEOPLE FOR?" Vegetarians (under 30 years of age) are invited to enter the B.W.C. competition in writing a paragraph of not more than the equivalent of 50 simple English words summarising the qualities they would wish to see in a well-balanced, truly-compassionate person. Entrants should state the date of their birth in confidence. The President of the International Vegetarian Union, The Marquis Francisco de St. Innocent, has offered to sponsor three prizes on behalf of the B.W.C. for the first three best entries as judged at the 21st World Vegetarian Congress at The Hague on 11 September, 1971. The closing date for entries is 30 June, 1971, by which time they shouldhave reached the Hon. General Secretary, I.V.U., at "Braidjule", Quarrytown, Ballycloghan, nr. Broughshane, Co.Antrim, N.Irealand (U.K.). The first prize is $150, second $100 and the third $50, to be by cheque at the Congress or as soon as possible thereafter.
