From 'Alive' (VSUK magazine) Jan/Feb 1979: International Youth Camp AT the very successful 1977 International Youth Camp (Reit im Winkl, Germany) representatives of the various national youth groups met together to form the "European League for Healthy Living Movement". The prime function of this body is to promote understanding and co-operation among the various national and 'young vegetarian' groups in Europe and this is epitomised in the resolve to hold an internatinal youth camp at least every two years. There was little time to organise anything for 1978 (though a few YS members did tour Eire). However, later this year there will be an international camp in the U.K. and it is expected that the Swedish groups will organise an international event, possibly a cycling holiday, in the summer of 1980. The Youth Section of the Vegetarian Society (UK), is the organising body behind this year's camp. "England '79". It will be held near Loughborough from 18th August to 1st September inclusive. Two hundred young people, from Western Europe and beyond, are expected yo attend. The camp is open to any young person, from 12 to 30 years old, who is willing to abide by the following rules: - eat vegetarian food for those two weeks Activities will include visits to places of interest, outdoor pursuits (for example walking, canoeing), games and sports, folk dancing, singing, music making, instruction in crafts and skills, talks on various topics of interest, (such as the environment ans nutrition) and, of course, visits to the I.V.U. Congress. Not all will be play however; participants will be expected to help in the running of the camp, and the preparation of food. The cost has not yet been finalised but it is estimated that there will be a maximum charge of say £40 for those booking early. If you are interested in participating in the camp or would like further details, please write (enclosing s.a.e.) to Lloyd Roberts, Flat 30, Penda Court Road, Handsworth, Birmingham B20 2RL From 'Alive' (VSUK magazine) Jan/Feb 1979 and May/June 1979:
International Youth Camp ANYBODY interested in participating, helping with organising or simply wanting further details write to Lloyd Roberts enclosing an s.a.e. He is particularly interested in hearing from anyone living in the Loughborough/Leicester area who is willing to help with the preparatory organisation work. This may just mean providing overnight floor-space for one or to people or it could mean an active role e.g. contacting suppliers, erecting tents on the first day, it's up to the individual concerned.
