慶祝香港純素食會建立的活動
(二○○○年七月二十九日)

To celebrate the official registration and establishment of the Hong Kong Vegan Society, a full course vegan buffet lunch and talks from guest speakers were held at the Fringe Club on the 29th of July, 2000.

AGENDA

Diet and Life Transformation - A Personal Journey
Speaker: Dr Simon Chau of the Hong Kong Vegetarian Society
People give up meat for different reasons, at different paces, and under different circumstances. Then the time comes, one thing leads to another, and "destiny" follows its own course. For a local hot-headed angry young man turned social transformer, a sudden call to vegetarianism out of the blue in mid-life equipped him with the Awareness and Sensibility to realize that he is where he was to be, and to do what he was to do. From that point onward, it was all miracles. Let us all share his joy and gratitude.

Humane Slaughter - A Contradiction in Terms
Speaker: Dr John Wedderburn of the Asian Animal Protection Network
The anomaly of choosing to eat one animal species and not another and why the conclusion should be to eat more.

Vegan Food - The Ethics of Eating
Speaker: Ms Diana Cox of the Hong Kong Vegan Society and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)
The belief that the treatment of animals falls within the compass of mortality is widely accepted by the philosophers and lay people alike. The ethics of eating animal produce were examined.

Many thanks to the guest speakers, including Dr Simon Chau who brought along extra vegan food. Also thanks to Annie and the rest of the gang who organised the event which was a great success. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves.
