Apologies for absence - Mr. Louis Escala
from IVU News Oct 2000:
Luis Escala - a sad loss - by Francisco Martin
Luis Escala, of Ecuador. the IVU Regional Secretary for Latin America
died on May 1, 2000.
The sad news of Luis's death has been a total surprise and a great loss
to the vegetarian and animal rights movement in Ecuador and in Latin
America. I spoke with him on a number of occasions and knew how determined
he was to fight for his ideals. A few months ago. I received a video
showing some of his activities for the cause.
Luis was a dedicated campaigner for the animals through his own group,
Trato Etico de los Animales, as well as member of AVE (Spanish Vegan
Society) and Regional Secretary of IVU. Ironically, it seems that he
was accompanying a family member undergoing medical treatment when he
contracted a virulent form of meningitis which by the time it was correctly
diagnosed was beyond all efforts to save him. He was just 38 years old.
