INTERNATIONAL VEGETARIAN UNION

International Council Meeting at Roso Hotel, Ronneby Brunn, Rlakinge, SWEDEN, on 22nd and 23rd April 1972.

Present: Council Members - Dr G.Latto (President); Herr Geo Hiller, (Dep President); Dr C Skriver; Herr A G Kocken (President S.V.F.) co-opted; Herr G Hedfors (Vice Pres.I.V.U.) co-opted. Also Mr P.L.Pick (Vice Pres.I.V.U.); Herr S.Lindstrom (S.V.F.); Mr B.J.Gunn-King (Hon.Gen.Sec IVU) and for the 2nd session Herr Andraison (Manager Roso Hotel)

Minutes

1. Dr Gordon Latto took the chair and thanked the Swedish Veg.Soc. as hosts for their arrangements and hospitality of the dinner on 22nd April.

2. Apologies for absence from Council Members were read and their agreed co-option in writing of Herr Kocken and Herr Redfors.

3. Minutes of the last Executive Committee Meeting at The Hague, Holland on 6th, Sept.1971 were noted as printed ; agreed and signed by the President Dr Latto.

4. Mr Gunn-King brought to the notice of the Council a recommended minor amendment to phrasing to Clause 29 of the IVU Constitution as per Inspector of Taxes (N.I.). It was agreed that this should be brought to the next Congress to clear IVU as a tax exempt organisation.

5. In the absence of the Hon Treasurer Mr Gunn-King produced an estimate to date of IVU (HQ) office's income, expenditure an assets. The favourable situation shown is now confirmed by audit up to 31st, March 1972 - a change of date agreed at the last Congress for fresher figures.

6. Mr Gunn-King reported that the French Vegetarian Association had affiliated to IVU since the last Congress and that negotiations were active with others. The Societe Vegetarienne de Geneve has re-affiliated since on 20th April 1972. An application for Associateship by the Social Science Institute (USA) was accepted after its aims were discussed. The Gen.Secretary appeals to all Societies and magazine editors receiving these Minutes to publicise the possibilities of Associateship to IVU for organisations with akin aims. The standard fee is £5.50 per annum. This request is on behalf if the International Council of IVU and Congress.

7. Suggestions for lectures, brains trusts and seminars were read for the next Congress from Mr Dinshah; Prof Brockhaus; Herr W.Schrader; Mr J.N.le Grice; Mr P.L.Pick; Lic.G.Alberti V.; Shri S.M.Mehta and Mr Gunn-King. These have been sent to the Swedish Vegetarian Soc. and a draft timetable produced for the 22nd World Vegetarian Congress.

8. Roso hotel/conference centre at Ronneby Brunn was selected as venue of the next Congress by the Council after a full tour of the facilities; a comparison with alternative sites in Sweden and a discussion on costs. Registration Fees per participant were agreed at between £8 and £9 sterling, subject to any unforseen price rises in the interim period. Registration and Business Sessions were set for the period of 28th July to 4th August 1973 with a following week's sightseeing mainly based on Roso Hotel to 11th Aug.

9. A ceiling of 300 Congress participants was envisaged but room for 100 more was available and youth hostel and camping places were available nearby. The programme was drafted to include dances, rambles, socials and recreation.
28th Saturday: registration and opening of Congress/Social/dance at 20.00hrs
29th Sunday: Guided tour of environs am; lectures p.m. and film in evening
30th Monday: Lectures a.m. Working groups p.m., SCIVU meeting, Brains Trust.
31st Tuesday: lectures am; working groups pm; Int Council Meeting; Brains Trust.
1st Aug, Wedn: General Meeting IVU am; Member Soc progress reports pm, dance.
2nd Aug: Thur: Coach outing/rambling am; Working groups pm, Youth Evening
3rd Aug:Fri: Lectures am Working groups ans summaries pm
4th Aug Sat: Shopping am free afternoon. Fancy dress ball/banquet evening
2nd week: Coach outings, day and 1/2 day to places of interest

10. Next Council Meeting will be at 17.15 hours 31st July at Roso.
