- Netherlands Congress Centre
PRESENT:- . . .Mr P.L.Pick.

There was the proposal by Mr. P.L. Pick (following a suggestion by M.
George Krassovsky), that the Congress made a call to every country in
the world in order to close down the slaughterhouses on October 4 every
year. As well as asking every religious order to lecture on the weekend
before that day, praying for raising compassion in people to every living
being.
Another proposal from Mr. P.L. Pick, representing Mr. Richard St. Barbe
Baker, that the Congress made a call to every vegetarian society to
use every kind of scientific and economic arguments on behalf of a more
extensive, rational and natural development in world's agriculture,
in order to increase the production of vegetable foods to the maximum

a Congress Report
VEGETARIAN Essence in Comparative Religions was the subject of a working
party headed by Philip Pick, President of the Jewish Vegetarian Society.
Among their findings . . . "Vegetarian propaganda of a general
nature, however efficient, appears to affect only that proportion of
the population that is totally uncommitted; the remainder, in their
traditional beliefs, consider that this must compromise all that is
required of them in the way of ethics." Among their recommendations
. . . a campaign directed to religious leaders, and research to be carried
out to support the original doctrines embracing vegetarianism.

That in accordance with Clause 8(b) a campaign to enrol Associates
on a world-wide basis shall be put into operation without delay in order
that I.V.U. shall have a sound financial basis and without which, it
is impossible to fulfil its objectives.
To carry out this plan all Member Societies and contacts in non-member

Middle East: The report from Mr Pick indicated that, apart from in Israel,
there is a lack of vegetarian achievement in the region. There was a

are treated there makes such development very desirable.
In Israel interest in vegetarianism is growing and the Israeli Vegetarian
Union has recently become a member of I.V.U. There are three vegetarian
orientated magazines and the Jewish Vegetarian Society is working to
set up a Vegetarian Naturopathic College
