Guidelines for the use of the ivu.org domain


This document is 'Appendix C' to the IVU Bylaws.

  1. Web space
    1. Free webspace is available to any IVU Full Member organisation. There are no limits on the disk space or download volumes. Member Organisations which already have a site elsewhere may still have an ivu.org site if required.
    2. All addresses will be in the format: www.ivu.org/xyz - users will not be allowed to point other domain names to ivu.org directories.
    3. The IVU webmaster will create and upload one simple page on behalf of any member society, provided it does not need frequent updating.
    4. Users wanting more than one page can be given a password for their directory and will be free to use as they wish, provided all contents are consistent with the IVU Articles and Memorandum of Association.
    5. All sites on ivu.org must display the IVU logo/link stating that the society is a member of the International Vegetarian Union.
    6. All sites on ivu.org must display a small logo for vegsource.com (which is providing the space to IVU) including the words 'Hosted by VegSource' (anyone wanting a site to host their own domain name should contact VegSource).

    1. Forwarding email aliases can be arranged for representatives of member societies (one address per society), plus any volunteers working on the website and any member of the International Council in their official capacities.

  3. Links and advertising
    1. Groups with sites on ivu.org are free to include any links or advertising, provided they are consistent with the IVU Articles and Memorandum of Association..
    2. Links from IVU's own website will only go to sites run by IVU Members, Supporters or Internet Partners, and only if they have some relevance to vegetarianism. There are no limits to the number of links to appropriate sites, logos can be displayed in any appropriate location.
    3. Advertising banners can be uploaded to the IVU website for any Business Supporter which is 100% vegetarian. IVU sub-sites in languages other than English may display banners for any member or supporter as appropriate.
    4. The IVU site will have no advertising or links other than those above.

  4. Disputes
    The IVU webmaster has the right to refuse the use of any IVU internet resources considered inappropriate. In the event of a dispute the matter should be referred to a member of the International Council for discussion by the full council.


The role the IVU Webmaster/Internet Co-ordinator

  • shall maintain all internet resources in consultation with the International Council (IC)
  • shall implement any specific decisions of IC in regard to any aspect of the internet.
  • shall ensure that at least one other person has password access to each resource, for use in case of emergencies.
  • shall encourage involvement from, and co-ordinate the activities of, technicians and translators.
  • shall maintain an online document 'Guidelines for the use of the IVU Internet Resources'.
  • shall endeavour to generate income from the internet to support the work of IVU.
  • shall endeavour to provide internet resources for any organisation which is a full member of IVU.
