Tubes 18 to almost 40 centimetres long are rammed down the birds’ throats, forcing them to swallow a physiologically gross amount of grain two or three times a day for a period of weeks until their livers become diseased and they develop infected wounds, congestion, and serious heart trouble. Ducks may be confined in narrow baskets in which they can scarcely move, akin to the ‘funnel torture’ of the Albigensian Inquisition.
