We are a local voluntary group whose aim is to promote the vegetarian/vegan diet to the moral, physical, environmental and economic benefit of humankind. Activities include speaker meetings, informal socials, visits to local restaurants and running information stalls at local events. We also compile Vegetarian Oxfordshire - our online guide to accommodation, eating places, health food and wholefood shops and miscellaneous businesses catering for vegetarians and vegans in and around Oxfordshire.
Members of Oxford Vegetarians without an email address receive a quarterly diary of events by post; members with an email address receive a regular email newsletter - OV Online News - previewing forthcoming events and reporting news and items of general interest to vegetarians and vegans. All members are entitled to claim discounts at a wide range of establishments in and around Oxford.
Oxford Vegetarians was founded in 1967 by a group of vegetarians in the Oxford area (for more details see our profile of the group and an article on the history of the group), and is run by a voluntary committee. We are affiliated to The Vegetarian Society of the UK and are a member society of the International Vegetarian Union.
We regret to say that owing to uncertainty regarding the future of the group currently we are only able to accept applications for membership up to the end of 2008. If you wish to join Oxford Vegetarians for the remainder of this year please calculate the relevant pro-rata rate for the number of complete months to the end of 2008 from the annual rates below.
