When Olivia Newton-John announced to the world that she had been stricken with breast cancer on July 14, 1992, she claimed that she was doing so "to save Enquiring minds 95 cents" and to avoid the lurid headlines in the tabloids.  For anyone acquainted with Olivia's environmentally conscious, vegetarian, and otherwise healthy lifestyle, the prepared statement came as complete shock.

Are you a vegetarian?
Not strictly. I went through a period when I was totally vegetarian, and I’m going back in that direction again. And then I got really anaemic... I was told to go back on meat. Even though some doctors would argue with me that you can get the right nutrition, I was trying to do everything I thought was correct to get enough iron but I just wasn’t getting enough iron.
