Sweet and
Sour "M**t"
from: Adele Faiks-Olsgard
I love Chinese food, so I bought a Chinese vegetarian cookbook.
I tried this recipe first thing, and it was really good.
It tasted a lot like the sweet and sour you get at Chinese restaurants.
(from Very!Very! Vegetarian! by Chen-Hsia Wang published by Wei
Chuan publishing)
- 1 cup vegetarian meat chunks (I think this can be purchased
from an Asian market.
I just used TVP chunks)
Mixture 1:
- 4 Tbsp flour
- 1 Tbsp cornstarch
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 1/4 tsp baking powder or soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- egg replacer to make 1 egg
Mixture 2:
- 3 Tbsp ketchup
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp water
Mixture 3:
- Total of 1/4 pound sliced carront, green bell pepper, and pineapple
Combine "meat chunks" with mixture 1.
Heat oil for deep-frying.
Fry the "meat" over high heat until brown.
Remove.
Heat 1 Tbsp. sesame oil.
Add mixtures 2 and 3.
Bring to a boil.
Add the vegetarian meat.
Stir to mix well. |
