They are REALLY awesome! I made rice (basmati, if you're curious)
today, and it took ~3 minutes to cook. :-)
- 1/4 c toor dal
- 1/4 c channa dal
- .5 tsp salt
- 4-8 red chillies
- dash of asafoetida
- dash of turmeric (my grandmother's trick to give good color)
- 1-1.5 c green beans, cut
- 2 tsp mustard seeds, pref. black
- 5-8 tsp oil
- some curry leaves
Soak the dals for a a few hours. Rinse, and grind coarsely with
the salt, peppers, and spices.
Place in a wide, shallow container, and place that in the
pressure cooker. Steam without the weight for 12-15 minutes.
In the meantime, steam the cut green beans.
In a wok, heat the oil and pop the mustard seeds. Crumble
the cooked dal finely into it, and stir. When it is golden brown,
add the (drained) green beans and the curry leaves. Stir a bit
more, and remove.
This is good with plain rice (I had that for my meal today),
with rasam and rice, yoghurt and rice, and especially with moarkozhambu
and rice (the recipe for which I will post later, since I'm
going to a Halloween party now ;-).
